  1. There is a moment in that Laura Nyro video where she smiles a little smile, as though she knows just how really great she's singing, and lets herself acknowledge it to herself.

    Also, "This is why so many children who live in towns are so extremely naughty. They do not know what is the matter with them, and no more do their fathers and mothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, tutors, governesses, and nurses; but I know. And so do you now. Children in the country are naughty sometimes, too, but that is for quite different reasons."

  2. You know, there are quite a few children's writers on this list who would never have written what they did if not for E. Nesbit. In addition to her direct influence, we have to consider her influence on Edward Eager and, I'm sure, J.K. Rowling, too. At the very least.

  3. My first exposure was The Enchanted Castle, which sent me down the path to a lot of other great books. It can fairly be said that she has influenced writers and readers that way.
